Wedding Day Overview
Wedding Day Overview
Here is a general overview of what usually happens when I DJ a wedding and some of the music I might play during these times....
Prior to the big day
We will chat so I can get to know you and the vibe you want for your wedding. We will figure out the songs you want to hear for the formal occasions as well as what you want to hear on the dancefloor. We also confirm which songs and genres that I should completely avoid. We chat about saxophone songs you want to hear (if I dont know the song then I'll give learning it a shot!)
We will usually have at least a couple of phone calls to make sure we are all on the same page and everything is on track.
Ceremony
I will arrive early to get the speakers and microphone set up. I will talk to the venue and celebrant to make sure everything is in order and we do a soundcheck. As your guests arrive I will play some romantic background music (unless you want something completely different of course).
Then when it is 'go time!' you walk down the aisle as I play your chosen entrance song. After your vows are exchanged there will be some music while you sign the certificates and then an exit song as you leave the ceremony. I'm also recording the audio of the whole thing that I will provide to you later on.
Post-Ceremony Photos / Cocktail Hour
Usually the newlyweds will be taking photos while the guests mingle and chat over some drinks. I will be playing background music for your guests while they talk about how beautiful the ceremony was! I will wander around and play some saxophone tunes during this time as well as some fun upbeat songs. I also use this time to chat to the MC and run through the important moments of the night.
Reception
When it's time for you (and your wedding party) to enter the Reception area the MC will get everyone standing up cheering as I play your chosen entrance song. After this there will usually be the cake cutting, speeches (I record these too), and dinner. I will be playing fun background music, as the night goes on it gets progressively more dancier.... leading up to your first dance!
Dancefloor
The usual timeline for a wedding is to have your first dance and then go into the general dancefloor for the rest of the night.
I play songs here that are upbeat, loud and fun. You will have also given me some songs you want to hear on the dancefloor so I make sure to include those at the right times. I go with the flow of the crowd and the overall vibe that we have agreed on beforehand. I usually take requests on the night as long as they are not too crazy! I get the saxophone out and play a few songs when I think they fit, lately I've been doing stuff like Uptown Funk, Celebration, Proud Mary, Funky Town, Man I Feel Like A Woman plus heaps more. This all peaks towards the end of the night where usually everyone is drunk and singing along to classic anthems!
